God’s Personality
If someone should ask you to name the attributes of God, how extensive would your answer be? Perhaps some characteristics would come to mind immediately, but others may require an in-depth search of the Scriptures.
Did you know He is absolutely perfect? Deuteronomy 32:3-4 says: “. . . how glorious is our God! He is the Rock; his deeds are perfect. Everything he does is just and fair. He is a faithful God who does no wrong, how just and upright he is!”NLT He is the perfect role model by which we can judge ourselves because he is perfect beauty, perfect love, perfect justice, perfect knowledge, perfect faithfulness, perfect patience, perfect peace.
What about His eternity or infinity? Psalm 102:25-27 says: “In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded. But you remain the same, and your years will never end.” NIV
Consider His immensity or omni-presence. God transcends all space and is not subject to its limitations. Nevertheless He fills every part of space with His entire Being. In Psalm 139:6-11 David said: “This is too glorious, too wonderful to believe! I can never be lost to your Spirit! I can never get away from my God! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the place of the dead, you are there. If I ride the morning winds to the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, your strength will support me. If I try to hide in the darkness, the night becomes light around me.”TLB
Do you know about His Goodness? God’s goodness takes on the form of love, grace, mercy, and long-suffering that He shows to those who are His Spiritual children through Jesus Christ. In Psalm 31: 19-20, David said: “How great is the goodness you (God) have stored up for those who fear you. You lavish it on those who come to you for protection, blessing them before the watching world. You hide them in the shelter of your presence, safe from those who conspire against them. You shelter them in your presence, far from accusing tongues.” NLT
