In The Garden
For Adam and Eve, the Garden of Eden was the ultimate in beauty. Adam opened his eyes to see the lush green forest with perfect landscaping. Among the trees were Fern Palms, Coconut Trees, Banana Trees, Fig Trees, Hemlock, Yews, tall towering Pines and beautiful Spruce. God put in the Garden one of every tree that was pleasing to the sight, and had food that was good to eat.
Among the trees was a river that watered the garden, giving life to every beautiful plant that grows upon the earth — the Amaryllis, the Poinsettias, the Azaleas, the Lilies, the Narcissus, the Daises, the Violets, the Orchids, the Petunias and every other beautiful flower. Walking among the trees and flowers was every kind of animal that Adam had given a name.
Adam and Eve looked upon the multicolored butterflies, the beautiful birds, the sleek lions, the fluffy squirrels, the huge elephants, and the scaly reptiles — all of them living in perfect harmony within the Garden.
But most important, Adam and Eve had the privilege of walking and talking with God in the Garden.
So why would they give up all of this?! The serpent promised Eve they could be like God, “knowing the difference between good and evil” and they believed him. So it was the desire for wisdom that caused Adam and Eve to sin.
We have a tendency to look at them; shake our heads; and say: “Why in the world would they do such a thing!?” when in fact we make the same mistake over and over again.
We can’t go back to the Garden of Eden, but we do have the privilege of walking and talking with God on a daily basis if we don’t blow it with sin! Once we put our trust in Christ and become one of God’s children, we can walk and talk with Him as often as we wish until sin creeps into our lives and breaks the connection.
How often did you walk and talk with God this week?
