Stranger Than Fiction

Do you like to read a bit of Science Fiction now and then? Even if you don’t, you should enjoy a little research through the Scriptures to learn the details of TRUE . . . not fiction . . . incidents that could only have been accomplished by a “source of power” from beyond our universe. Take time to look up each account for a full perspective of how God intervened in the natural laws of our world.

The Day the Earth Stood Still

Imagine being on planet earth when the sun stopped in the middle of the sky and did not move for about 24 hours. In Joshua 10:12-14 Joshua prayed aloud, “Let the sun stand still over Gibeon, and let the moon stand in its place over the valley of Aijalon! And the sun and the moon didn’t move until the Israeli army had finished the destruction of its enemies! . . . So the sun stopped in the heavens and stayed there for almost twenty-four hours!“ TLB

When God Caused Time to Back Up About Six Hours

Would you feel a little frightened if you literally experienced a time when the shadow of the sun backed up? You can read a full account of this strange incident by turning to Isaiah 38:1-8. God used the moving of a shadow as proof to Hezakiah that He had given him another 15 years to live. Verse 8 says ‘“. . .I {God} will cause the sun’s shadow to move ten steps backward on the sundial of Ahaz!’ So the shadow on the sundial moved backward ten steps.” NLT

The Earth’s First Space Traveler

Turn to 2 Kings 2:1-15 for a full study of the episode when Elijah was literally taken up into heaven by a whirlwind in a chariot of fi re pulled by horses of fi re. Verse 11 says: “Then it came about as they were going along and talking, that behold, there appeared a chariot of fire and horses of fire which separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind to heaven. “ NAS

The Time a Man was Instantly Transported from one City to Another

Philip was literally snatched from the Road to Gaza and found himself in the village of Asotus. You can read the full account of Philip and eunuch in Acts 8:26-40. Verses 39-40 say: “And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away; and the eunuch saw him no more, but went on his way rejoicing. But Philip found himself at Azotus; and as he passed through he kept preaching the gospel to all the cities, until he came to Caesarea.” NAS
